ORAM seeks funding from EU Commissioners for LGBTIQ+ community displaced by the war in Ukraine

Writer: Dechen Khangkyil Dechen Khangkyil

On the occasion of Coming Out Day this past Monday, ORAM and a coalition of 10 other LGBTIQ civil society organizations from across Europe sent a letter to EU Commissioners regarding the usage of EU-funds to help displaced LGBTIQ Ukrainians.

The letter requested that the European Commission allow direct funds to civil society organizations. Doing so will allow organizations like us to help LGBTIQ+ displaced persons from fleeing the war In Ukraine at every step of their journey from finding shelter to seeking legal and psychological aid.

While the work organizations have done has been funded by private organizations in the past, initial funding is drying up. Being able to get funding from an EU organization will ensure a sustainable way to address the needs of organizations like ORAM and others.
