Board Position

Organization for Refuge, Asylum & Migration (ORAM) protects and empowers LGBTIQ asylum seekers and refugees globally, creating sustainability and systemic change. ORAM is seeking visionary, influential and dynamic leaders to fill openings on their Board of Directors. These individuals will work closely with other board members and staff to help ORAM realize its mission, meet its goals and deliver on its priorities. 

To be considered for one of these Board positions, applicants must:

  • Be passionate, interested and/or experienced about international refugee, asylum seeker and LGBTQ+ community issues.  

  • Support all aspects of fundraising, including personal giving and helping raise funds from personal and professional networks

  • Demonstrate the highest ethical standards, a strong sense of professionalism and intense dedication to serving the interests of the organization. 

  • Willing to devote at approximately 4 hours per month to ORAM matters.  

  • Available to attend two virtual and one in-person board meetings annually (travel expenses for one in-person meeting must be borne by board member) 

  • Willing to commit to at least one three-year term

 

To ensure a Board of Directors with a diverse skill set, ORAM continues to seek candidates who bring experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • LGBTQ fundraising landscape: Volunteering, fundraising, designing campaigns, donor outreach etc. for LGBTQ+ specific causes. 

  • Financial Management / Accounting: General understanding of non-profit financials, expense management, revenue forecasting, etc. 

  • Government Affairs / Legal: Experience with govt. grants, agencies influencing ORAM’s work, immigration policy, etc. 

  • Board governance: Prior experience serving on boards, improving board operations, etc. 

  • Corporate engagement: Experience with engaging corporate/ private sector with sponsorships, donations, engagement programs, etc. 

Any previous experience as a Board member with other organizations is a strong plus, as is management and leadership experience. ORAM is also committed to recruiting Board members from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Traditionally under-represented identities such as gender, LGBTQ, people of color, people with lived experience as a refugee, people with disabilities, etc. are encouraged to apply.
