Outreach & Advocacy

Advocacy and education are cornerstones in refugee protection strategy. They include a combination of activities such as research, information dissemination, coalition building, and spreading public awareness. These efforts help to transform policies and services on a regional, national, and global level to help protect exceptionally vulnerable refugees. ORAM has worked in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and government agencies, leading and coordinating international action to protect exceptionally vulnerable refugees. We are also active members of:

In order to create positive, systematic change in the refugee protection system, ORAM: Advocates for widespread policy changes within agencies, organizations, and governing bodies to benefit the greatest possible number of vulnerable refugees. Trains staff of governments, international organizations, nongovernmental organizations, and human rights groups about the unique needs exceptionally vulnerable refugee groups. Forms and participates in strategic coalitions with other refugee rights advocacy organizations, human rights groups, legal aid centers, non-governmental organizations,  and faith-based organizations to increase awareness or collaborations to further certain agendas in the protection of vulnerable refugees. Regularly collaborates with major universities worldwide by lecturing and disseminating our research results as well as accepting volunteers and interns from tens of universities, educating their students to become refugee advocates of tomorrow. Educates host communities on the needs of vulnerable refugee groups by publishing guides and sponsoring community outreach programs around the world to spread awareness and teach how to better receive and protect refugees. Provides a resource database for refugees themselves to assist them from the time they leave home, until they are safely resettled in supportive communities.
