Berlin is in the final stages of opening its first LGBT refugee reception center, which will house up to 120 individuals. This comes after widely-reported abuse of LGBT refugees. Even when they reach “safe haven,” exceptionally vulnerable refugees, including LGBTs and women, are at risk of violent attack by fellow refugees. ORAM is conducting training with stakeholders in Europe to better protect vulnerable refugees during the reception and integration process. We also consult governments of receiving countries on which practices to implement in order to best serve and protect vulnerable refugees.
